Steal the Look – Summer Event Makeup

Steal the Look - Summer Event Makeup

Steal the Look: Kate Middleton

Fashion royalty (literally), The Duchess of Cambridge opted for her go-to naturally understated makeup look when arriving for the opening day at Royal Ascot 2017.

To achieve a similar look to Kate, we recommend using the following products:

Face:

For a flawless but lightweight base, applying mineral foundation is key. For Summer events where you need your makeup to stay looking fresh all day (and occasionally in the heat) wearing a good primer and setting powder is essential.

(Handy tip! Get more bang for your buck by investing in one of Youngblood’s Complexion Perfection Kits. Each kit contains a mineral primer, kabuki brush, a full size foundation and a setting powder in either loose or pressed format.)

Kate has opted for a very subtle contour on the cheeks. Get the look by applying a soft rosy shade of blush to the apple of the cheeks and using a sculpting brush to hollow out the cheek bones with bronzer. Get the best of both shades with our Mineral Radiance bronzer compact in shade Sundance.

Eyes:

Kate’s lashes are always super dark and voluminous. Apply a generous amount of lengthening mascara in black and keep eyeshadow soft to balance things out. We recommend our pressed individual eyeshadow in shade ‘Gilded’.

The whole nation is constantly in awe of Kate’s statement brows. For thicker and defined looking eyebrows, use a slanted brush to apply a quality brow powder in your shade.

Lips:

When the emphasis is on the eyes, keep your lips understated like Kate. For a little bit of shine and colour, apply our nude Lipgloss in the shade ‘Coy’.

Steal the Look – Laura Whitmore

TV Presenter and style inspiration, Laura Whitmore opted for a bold and summery look at this year’s Royal Ascot.

Face:

Laura emphasises her killer cheekbones with generous amount of bronzer. For cheekbones like Laura, use a contour palette to highlight and define cheeks. You can also use it around the nose, forehead and jawline to create a beautifully structured look.

(Top tip! For makeup that stays on all day in the heat, use a multi-purpose product like our new CC Primer. Add a touch of colour and prime makeup all at the same time.)

Eyes:

A subtle amount of brown eyeshadow in shade ‘Gilded’ will off-set a dramatic lip perfectly. Pull it all together with a lengthening mineral mascara in black.

Lips:

This look is of course, all about the lips! Moisturise lips first with Youngblood’s Hydrating Lip Creme SPF15 and line with our Lip Liner Pencil in shade ‘Truly Red’. For plumper looking lips, draw the line just over the lips. Then use a moisturising lipstick shade like ‘Vixen’ to fill them in.

Effortless Californian Beauty

Effortless Californian Beauty

‘No Make up Makeup’ is a trend that has swooped the industry by storm. Everyone is looking for that natural, effortless Californian beauty. Here at Youngblood, we are professionals at creating effortless looks that leave you looking fresh faced and dewy.

Today we are going to teach you the ultimate tips and tricks to make your skin looking naturally radiant without too much effort…

Before you apply your primer, it is always important to prep your skin with a good skincare regime. Start by exfoliating your face to remove all of the dead skin cells. Next cleanse your skin with your favourite cleanser to remove any excess dirt or make up.

Toners are often forgotten but they are an important step to neutralise your skins PH levels before moisturiser. Of course, moisturiser is the last step to leave your skin feeling fresh before make up application.

Base: To recreate this subtle “no makeup” makeup look, start by prepping the skin with the Mineral Primer. Next, apply the Moisture Tint in your shade for hydrated, even skin. If you tend to get oily throughout the day, set your base with a light dusting of the Mineral Rice Setting Powder.

Cheeks: Using your fingers, gently pat a touch of the Crème Blush in Pink Cashmere to the apples of the cheeks for a realistic glow.

Eyes: Achieve soft, barely-there definition with neutral matte shadows. Sweep the Pressed Individual Eyeshadow in Alabaster all over the lid and place Coco in the socket using the Crease Smudge Brush. To brighten up the look, apply a dab of Halo to the inner corner.

After you’ve blended the eyeshadow, take the Lengthening Mascara and wipe any excess product off the wand. Apply the mascara with a delicate hand, concentrating on the roots of the lashes. If you have light hair, opt for the colour Mink instead of Blackout for a more natural look. Lastly, tame any unruly brows using your shade of theBrow Artiste Wax.

Lips: Complete the look with lush, juicy lips. Apply the Hydrating Lip Tint in Peony for a sheer wash of colour and SPF 15 protection. Set your “no makeup” look with a spritz of Minerals in the Mist in Refresh, and get ready wow the world with your natural beauty!

Date Night Make Up

Date Night Make Up

It’s that time again and Valentine’s Day is nearly here! Now, some may love this and jump at the opportunity for a hot date a romantic dinner or a few stolen moments with the one you love. Some also are sure to roll their eyes and think of it as nothing more than a commercial celebration. However… whether you have someone to love or not, it’s an excuse to get glammed up and gorgeous, and who doesn’t love that! So whether you’ll be celebrating with the one you love, with a contender for your love or maybe even just with the girlfriends, I wanted to give you some makeup inspiration!

Let’s take our lead from the stars that do it so well – here are a few ideas and how to get the look with Youngblood…

Smoky Glamorous

How can you ever go past a classic smoky eye for instant glam. The key with this look is to keep the focus on and keep the rest of the skin and lips fresh and clean. For the eyes, use the Starlet Pressed Mineral Eyeshadow Quad, line the eyes with Eclipse Gel Liner and plump the lashes with Blackout Lengthening Mascara. Polishing the lips with Champagne Ice Lip Gloss will finish the look with the perfect nude pout.

Soft and Pretty

For a more subtle romantic look, keep the eyes defined using soft washes of colours such as Haze Crushed Mineral Eyeshadow, Coco Pressed Mineral Eyeshadow, Halo Pressed Mineral Eyeshadow or the Shanghai Nights Mineral Eyeshadow Quad. A hint of pink on apple of the cheek using Dusty Pink Crushed Mineral Blush will give you a girly glow. Pout Lip Pencil and Just Pink Lipstick will keep the lips looking fresh and feminine.

Pink and Sassy

For a fun and sassy look, opt for bold lips using Envy Lipstick topped off with a coating of Promiscuous Lip Gloss. Keep the eyes flirty by just defining the top lash line with a winged liner, using Eclipse Gel Liner. Make the top lashes bold with Blackout Mineral Lengthening Mascara and even apply a false lash strip if you’re game!

Romance with Red

When you think romantic, you think red. There is a certain sex appeal about a bold red lip that I’m sure will never go out of fashion. Line your lip using Truly Red Lip Pencil, and then apply Vixen Lipstick to the entire lip area. This looks great with bronzed, glowing skin so apply Sundance Mineral Radiance to the cheeks and anywhere else you want a glow. Add a wash of Gilded Pressed Individual Eyeshadow to the eye for a hint of gold, and then define the inner rim and upper lashes using Blackest Black Eye Pencil. Add lashings of Blackout Mineral Lengthening Mascara and you’re ready for romance!

Ready, Set, Prime!

Ready, Set, Prime!

If you’ve never tried a face primer before, you might be hesitant to make the investment. We get it – it sounds like a hassle! After all, it’s one more product to buy, and an additional step for your daily routine. But just as you shouldn’t skip the base coat when painting your nails, using a face primer is crucial for ensuring your foundation will make it through the day. In our books, that’s worth the extra step!

Different types of primers work to address a multitude of diverse skin concerns – everything from acne and oil production to dry skin and fine lines. If you’ve ever noticed your foundation breaking up around your T-zone, settling in creases, or fading a few hours after application, the right primer might be all you need to avoid those issues.

So how do you choose the best primer for you? Since all primers are intended to increase the wear of your foundation, focus on your skin’s additional needs to select your perfect primer.

The Mineral Primer is ideal for those looking to diminish the appearance of fine lines and large pores to create an even surface for foundation application. Enhanced with Vitamins A and E, as well as minerals like Zincite, Malachite, Hematite, and Rhodolite, this base will help increase the longevity of makeup and protect skin with antioxidising ingredients.

For those dealing with extremely oily or acne-prone skin, the Anti-Shine Mattifier is a great option for prepping the face for foundation. Infused with Nigella and Pumpkin Seed oils to promote balanced skin, this revolutionary product will absorb excess oil and help prevent the overproduction of oil throughout the day.

Those with a bit of excess shine and large pores should opt for a primer like the Mineral Rice Setting Powder, which can be used under foundation, as well as over it to set it. This gentle primer is wonderful for sensitive skin, and leaves a matte, flawless finish.

Primers can even be combined to create a customised formula. For example, if you have an oily T-zone, but dry skin otherwise, apply the Mineral Primer all over the face, and add some of the Anti-Shine Mattifier to the nose, forehead, and chin. If your oily skin seems to break up every foundation you’ve tried, pair up the Anti-Shine Mattifier and Mineral Rice Setting Powder for the most powerful results.

Once you begin using a primer, you’ll notice how smoothly and evenly your foundation applies, and be amazed at how little you need to touch up your face throughout the day. Take that extra moment in the morning to prep your skin, and the time and worry you save will be more than worth it.

4 Top Tips For Sensitive Eyes

4 Top Tips For Sensitive Eyes

You’ve finished your fabulous smoky eye look, but now your watering, itching eyes are making your night out a little less glamorous than you pictured. You may feel like tossing your eyeliner, but don’t lose hope – those with sensitive eyes can still rock their favourite makeup looks! Follow these eight makeup tips to keep the irritation at bay and enjoy the makeup application process once more.

1. Steer clear of the waterline
You might love the look of tight lining or applying heavy liner on the lower waterline, but it’s not worth it if your eyes are watering because of it. Apply your eyeliner only on the top and/or bottom lash lines (where it’s dry!) to reduce the aggravating effects of liners.

2. Opt for “healthy” brands
Many makeup brands contain petrochemicals, fragrances, parabens, and other inflammatory ingredients. Make sure the products you use are free of nasty additives to avoid redness and irritation.Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics is designed specifically for those with sensitive skin, making the non-comedogenic line a great choice for those who struggle with eye sensitivity.

3. Check your eyelash glue
If you wear false lashes regularly, make sure the glue you use to apply them isn’t part of the problem. Certain eyelash glues contain latex and other ingredients that can cause allergies, so try switching brands if you’ve noticed more redness or watering than usual.

4. Don’t share eye makeup
It’s tempting to let your friend borrow the mascara or eyeliner you swear by, but the golden rule of avoiding eye infections and sensitivity is to always keep your eye products to yourself. Your bestie will understand!

To add definition, create an extreme or subtle contour with the Youngblood contour palette. Master sculpting this season and apply a colour 1-2 shades darker than your natural skin tone to help define your features. The trick is to look at your face shape. Not everyone needs contouring. Remember the darker the shade the smaller it looks. So, if you’re looking to hide or reduce the appearance of a certain feature, be sure to apply the contour cream to this area. Typically, we recommend applying this in a 3-shape motion. Start on the temples then guide your brush down just under the cheekbones to create definition then finally big your brush down to the jaw line to ensure you create a nice chiselled look.

Next, move on to the eyes, for this time of year a gold eye is the festive favourite. Apply gilded individual pressed eyeshadow evenly all over the lid. Once you are happy with the pigment level, apply the Precious Metal Liquid Liner in 18 Karat as close as possible to the lash line. All that’s left to do now is apply your mascara and your good to go!

If your feeling daring enough be sure to add the ultimate pop of colour. Our Vixen lipstick is the ultimate head turner, sure to get you in the festive mood. Apply a thin even layer all over the lips.

Strobing 101

Strobing 101

Strobing. It’s not a new dance move or new millennial saying — it’s actually refers to contouring’s dramatically simpler sister. Strobing is actually not a new technique; it’s been around in the makeup game for many years—you might know it as highlighting. Strobing is basically highlighting to the extreme and letting the highlight define your facial features without the use of bronzer or contour. The main goal for strobing is to concentrate a highlight on the highest points of your face, where light would naturally hit, to create a “glow from within” dewy, radiant complexion.

Contouring VS Strobing!

Contouring = placing dark shades around a certain area of your face to give you shape and accentuating certain features by placing shades of light around those areas.

Strobing = placing highlights on areas of your face that light naturally illuminates, giving you a bright and dewy effect.

Curious? Youngblood’s Illuminating Palette provides an easy way to get in on the trend. Developed with six unique highlighting shades, this palette is perfect for all types of skin tones. Let’s learn how to strobe.

Screen-Shot-2016-09-23-at-12.56.24-PM

Our brand new Illuminating Palette has six unique oil-free and easy-to-blend cream shades. These highlights are formulated with candelilla wax — a natural gloss that nourishes your skin without a sticky effect — and mica, which provides a soft and dewy shimmer. Because of its cream formulation, these shades lock in moisture and are easy to apply. In fact, you can apply one of the highlights with your fingertips, foundation brush, or powder brush! Like all Youngblood products, this palette is free of synthetic colours, artificial fragrances, alcohol, petroleum, and other harsh chemicals.

Give yourself that fresh-faced glow, start with your skin prepped and moisturised. Next, you’ll want to choose a shade that best matches your skin tone. To avoid that ’90s frosted look, make sure the shade you choose gives you a natural sheen. After choosing your shade, you’ll want to apply the highlighter in spots that naturally catch the light.

Traditionally, these areas are: the corner of your eye, cheekbones, cupid’s bow, forehead, and middle of your chin. By placing your highlight in these areas, you’ll enhance your natural features. Avoid spreading the highlight all around as it will appear to give you more of greasy look rather than a light, dewy glow. After applying the highlighter, choose a matte blush and your favourite lipstick and you’re ready to go.

5 Lip Laws

5 Lip Laws

Luscious lips, with a slick of your best lipstick coating them, is that one makeup trick that always, without fail, completely brightens your face to say “no, I wasn’t up all night watching Stranger Things”. Much like a milkshake, the perfect pout never fails to bring all the boys to the yard, but it’s not always easy to achieve.

There is more to lipstick than just coating it on and heading out the door, especially if you want a high impact lip colour that looks better, lasts longer and works hard for you all day long. To get Kylie’s incredible pout, or a Victoria’s Secret approved high-wattage smile, follow these vital ‘lip laws’ to help make that glamourous pucker the topic of conversation:

1- Exfoliate your lips: As with any part of your body, your lips can get extremely dry and flaky (especially when you’re a fan of matte lippies). Gently exfoliate your lips to rid them of any dryness to make sure that bright, bold lipstick slides on flawlessly for easy application. For added moisture, use our Hydrating Lip Crème in a light application for a smooth base for your lipstick.

2- Apply foundation on top of your pout: It can really blow when that lipstick you’ve been dying to try looks like a completely different colour on your lips! This is because everyone’s natural lips are a different shade of pink, affecting the pigment’s appearance on your lips. If you want to see the true colour in the tube, ditch the pink canvas you were born with and coat your lips with a thin layer of foundation, blending over the lip line for the exact colour you want.

DIY-Lip-Scrub-2

3- Always, always, always use a lip liner: The lipstick gods are looking down on you, so do it! Your lipstick or gloss can ‘bleed’ into your skin’s fine lines around your mouth without a protective barrier surrounding those gorgeous lips of yours. Lip liner acts as a prison wall to your lipstick, keeping it literally within the lines of your lips, creating a more defined and plumper pout. Top tip: Line the top lip with a lighter liner, and the bottom lip with a darker tone of your lipstick colour to trick your eyes into seeing a fuller lip.

4- Highlight your cupids bow: If you’re looking for a more defined pout, use a highlighting powder like our Lunar Dust, of luminous pencil like our Illuminating Duo Pencil on your cupids bow, making them appear plumper, fuller and brighter. We also recommend using our Ultimate Corrector to trace around your lipstick before applying the highlight to create a sharp outline, making your lipstick look more bold and striking against your skin tone

5- Use the finger glide technique: We’ve all been privy to the ultimate lipstick fiasco; the dreaded lipstick-on-teeth horror that you only discover in the afternoon when you finish work… great. We’ve got a weird but wonderful technique to prevent this throughout the day; the classic finger glide. When wearing a bold lip colour, or one that is prone to transferring onto any object or person it comes in contact with, position your lips around one of your fingers, and glide it through your lips. Yes, you may look strange, but any excess lipstick inside your lips will come off on your finger, and not your teeth.
